Neoregelia 'Malbec' is the result of a controlled breeding program in Princeton, FL. It is a cross between Neoregelia carolinae ‘Sunrise’ and an unnamed proprietary selection of Neoregelia macrosepala. It was patented on March 13, 2012 under the patent number PP22,586.

It has been our experience that Neoregelia 'Malbec' performs well in our area in a warm season planting. It was observed to hold its color as the season progressed. It is about ten inches tall and about eighteen inches wide.
